As we are looking at global connections in my Year 5/6 class, I recently posed the question to my students: Would rather go to school in Australia or Nigeria?
We looked at the fabulous 'Get Epic' and searched through a range of digital books to find two texts of interest. Students were able to compare and contrast ideas to form their own opinions. The texts helped them to consider not only the vast difference in the education system, such as the state of school buildings and the lack of value in education, but also the organisations and agencies that are around that could improve Nigerian schools.
This learning incorporated digital technologies, cooperative learning, critical thinking and students' personal growth. Where we are heading to next is unknown. Students are now asking "what next?" and this is an exciting place to be!
